Biography
Dr. Helmuth Ludwig is a Professor of Practice for Strategy and Entrepreneurship at °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÔ¤²â’s Cox School of Business in Dallas, where he teaches MBA courses, e.g., on Technology and AI Strategy. He is also the Cox Executive Director of the Hart Institute for Technology, Innovation, and Entrepreneurship @ °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÔ¤²â, an Executive Fellow of the Strategic Management Department at the IESE, Barcelona, Spain, and an Affiliated Professor and Research Lead at the Research Lab for the Management of Artificial Intelligence, University of St. Gallen, Switzerland.
He serves on the Boards of Directors of Hitachi Ltd, Tokyo (member audit committee) and Humanetics Group, Farmington Hill (Board chair). He is also a senior advisor to Bridgepoint LLC and Zscaler, Inc. He is a Certified Director and Board Leadership Fellow with the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD).
From 1990 until 2019, he worked at Siemens, a leading technology company, in different functions and regions: global CIO (until 2019), CEO of Siemens Industry Sector North America (until 2014), and President of Siemens PLM Software (until 2010). Earlier in his career, Helmuth had several international assignments at Siemens in Europe, Latin America, and Asia.
He has been a board member of several public and private organizations: Circor International (Chair), Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing (Chair), Siemens Electrical, Inc (Chair), Siemens Industry Inc. (member), and Siemens Corporation (member).
Helmuth holds an engineering degree from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, an MBA from the University of Chicago, and a Doctorate from the Christian-Albrecht University of Kiel. His latest publications (2023, MISQE) include "How Siemens Democratized Artificial Intelligence” and “How Boards of Directors Govern Artificial Intelligence” both coauthored with Professor Benjamin van Giffen. Together with Andy Brown, he published in Fall 2023 the book “Cybersecurity: Seven Steps for Boards of Directors”. In 2024 he published in “Der Aufsichtsrat”: Cybersicherheit: Leitfaden für den Aufsichtsrat in Sieben Schritten”.
Helmuth holds German and US passports and resides with his wife Almudena in Dallas, Texas, and Madrid, Spain.
