Kevin Briceland

Research Interests:
Kevin’s research explores the intersection of Black and Indigenous histories during the post-Civil War period into the early 20th century with specific focus on settler-colonialism, land-based identities and racialized violence in Indian Territory (now Oklahoma). This specialization stems
from Kevin’s personal connection to the lands of Oklahoma, both as an enrolled citizen of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and as a resident of the city of Tulsa.
Kevin has earned Bachelor of Arts degrees in history and American Indian studies from Northeastern State University, in Tahlequah, OK. Upon completion of his undergraduate studies, Kevin completed an M.A. in American studies and has completed internships with the Oklahoma Historical Society, Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma and the Sequoyah Research Institute at the University of Arkansas at Little Rock. Beyond his academic work, Kevin enjoys road trips with his family, live music and all things outdoors.
