About
Dr. Brandy Schumann is a Licensed Professional Counselor-Supervisor, Registered Play Therapy-Supervisor, National Certified Counselor, Professor at °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÔ¤²â (°ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÔ¤²â), and a Past President of the Texas Association for Play Therapy.
Dr. Schumann holds a Doctoral degree in Counseling, with a specialty in Play Therapy from the top ranked play therapy program in the world, the University of North Texas. For over a decade, she has worked with children and families in a variety of settings including private practice, agencies, and as a school counselor for Denton ISD. She has worked for and with community organizations including the Red Cross, the WARM Place (A Grief Support Center for Children), Cancer Care Services, Galaxy Counseling Center, Friends of the Family, and the Child Advocacy Center of Denton County. She also provides crisis-counseling services, aiding community members in tragedy including victims in New York, post 9/11, and in Texas, for Hurricane Katrina victims.
Dr. Schumann is a full-time counseling program faculty member at °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÔ¤²â, serving as a Clinical Associate Professor and Internship Director. For over 10 years prior to this appointment, Dr. Schumann taught as a lecture professor for the University of North Texas (UNT) and an adjunct professor at both °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÔ¤²â and UNT. She has worked as the Assistant Director for the Center for Play Therapy, a facility recognized worldwide for research and training contributions to the Play Therapy field. She continues to serve as a Supervisor for the center's Intensive Play Therapy Training Institute. As an experienced presenter and author, Dr. Schumann is sought around the world. She also serves as an advisor for the Play Therapy Infinity Association of Hong Kong and Australia's Pacific Play Therapy Association.
She has been recognized for her counseling service to the community as an Altrusa International Outstanding Women of Today Nominee, Chi Sigma Iota's Rho Kappa Chapter's Outstanding Practitioner Award Recipient, and as a Dallas Child's Mom Approved Wellness Professional. Her areas of expertise are helping children, teens, and families. Services she offers include play therapy, child and adolescent counseling, child-parent relationship training, supervision and consultation to other counseling professionals and public speaking. Brandy enjoys the life she shares with her family, which includes three human children, one furry and two hard shelled ones.
