About
Dr. McAlister received her Master's of Education in Supervision at Lamar University and her Ph.D. in Family Studies at Texas Woman's University in 2006. She is a Licensed Professional Counselor Supervisor (LPC-S) and a Registered Educational Diagnostician. She served, by Gubernatorial appointment, to the Texas State Board of Examiners of LPC's from 1999 to 2003. While employed by Dallas ISD, Gay supervised 40 to 80 school counselors per year. As an Adjunct Instructor, she taught at Lamar University in Beaumont and the University of Texas, Tyler. She is a member of numerous associations in the field with presentations at Texas Education Association meetings, Texas Assessment Conference, College Board, and at every Texas Counseling Association Annual Professional Growth Conference from 1988-2013. National conference presentations include the American Counseling Association, American School Counselor Association, and the National High School Conference. Her teaching responsibilities have included Group Counseling, Introduction to Counseling, Gender Issues, Advanced General Psychology, Assessment, and School Counseling. Community service experience has focused on Red Cross of Dallas as a mental health volunteer, CASA for child advocacy, and Jewish Family Services as a group leader for divorce support groups for adults and children. Additionally, she serves as a volunteer mental health professional for Yellow Ribbon Events (services for deployed military and national guard).
