Biographical Note:

General Peter Pace, U.S. Marine Corps, served as chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff from 2005 to 2007. Pace retired after this post, having dedicated more than 40 years of active service to the Marine Corps. His military career included service in Vietnam, Thailand, Washington, DC, New York, and South Korea, as well as appointment as the president of the Marine Corps University. During the George W. Bush presidency, Pace served as commander-in-chief of U.S. Southern Command and as vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff (2000-05), before his appointment as chairman.
