Computer Science Advising

Welcome!

Students who have not declared a major, contact the Director of Undergraduate Advising Misti Compton, M.S. If you have declared a Computer Science major, contact Senior Advisor Kaelyn Rice, M.A.

Student Responsibilities

  • Attend advising appointments prepared with questions for your advisor.
  • Take notes during your advising appointments.
  • Become knowledgeable of °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÔ¤²â requirements, policies, procedures, and resources.
  • Research the schedule of classes and prepare a tentative schedule. Add courses to your shopping cart early!
  • Reflect upon your educational, personal, and professional goals and be prepared to discuss them.
  • Read your °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÔ¤²â email frequently.
  • Submit petitions in a timely manner.
  • Assemble an “advising/academic folder” to keep all of your advising and academic materials organized (relevant test scores, program planning sheets, petitions, etc.). You may need to refer to these from time to time and provide documentation when you apply for graduation.
  • Meet with your Academic Advisor regularly (at least once per semester) to review progress towards degree completion.
  • Follow up on responsibilities, such as petitions, placement exams, and meetings with academic departments.
  • Be responsible for your decisions and your education.

Advisor Responsibilities

  • Help you develop and refine your academic goals and career objectives
  • Assist you in understanding your academic requirements, program progression, and policies or procedures for °ÄÃÅÁùºÏ²ÊÔ¤²â and Lyle
  • Make appropriate referrals to campus resources
  • Be available to answer questions through scheduled appointments, telephone, and/or email
  • Actively listen to your concerns and respect your individual values and choices
  • Help you make informed decisions, but not make decisions for you
  • Be on time and prepared for student appointments
